Preston is a small Caroline County town of around 700 residents in the southern part of the county, incorporated in 1906 and named for an early postmaster. The town sits along the Choptank River and historically supported canning and agricultural shipping, with grain and produce from the surrounding countryside still the economic foundation. Preston's commercial base includes small local businesses, a volunteer fire company, and farm-support services. The Friends of Linchester Mill, based nearby, preserve one of the few remaining historic mill sites on the Choptank River.
