Queenstown is a historic community on the eastern shore of the Chester River in Queen Anne's County, with a population of about 700. It served as the county seat from 1707 to 1782 before losing that role to Centreville. Today Queenstown is largely residential and agricultural, anchored by the Outlet Center at Queenstown, an outdoor shopping mall on U.S. Route 50 that draws visitors from throughout the region. The surrounding area includes Wye Oak State Park, home to the oldest and largest white oak tree in Maryland until its loss in 2002. Agriculture, a handful of marinas, and retail serve the local economy.
